Year-end close is a fixed sequence with immovable deadlines, and most of the errors that surface in January were introduced months earlier. This session walks the close in order: reconciliation, taxable fringe benefit capture, Form W-2 preparation, and the correction path when something is already filed.
The session includes the federal and state filing calendar for the coming year and the penalty exposure attached to each date.
Major topics covered
- Quarterly to annual reconciliation.
- Taxable fringe benefits and imputed income.
- Form W-2 preparation and filing.
- Corrections on Forms W-2c and 941-X.
After completing this session you will be able to:
- 01Apply the reconciliation procedures that tie quarterly Forms 941 to the annual Form W-2 totals.
- 02Identify taxable fringe benefits requiring imputed income before the final payroll of the year.
- 03Explain Form W-2 box-by-box reporting for the codes most often misapplied.
- 04Recognize and avoid errors that require Form W-2c and the associated Form 941-X.
